KINGSTON, Jamaica — Minister of Finance and the Public Service, Audley Shaw, a short while ago confirmed that the Jamaica Labour Party Government will honour its election promise of removing income tax for people earning below $1.5 million as indicated.
Speaking after being sworn in as Minister of Finance, Shaw indicated that the the tax cut will go ahead despite the fact that the budget has already been crafted.
He noted that after reviewing tax data, there was a positive deviation from the previously stated $12.5 billion figure it would cost to move remove the tax. The loss according to Shaw is now estimated in the region of $11 billion.
