KINGSTON, Jamaica – Eighty-two people have lost their lives due to road crashes since the start of 2016, according to statistics released by the National Road Safety Council (NRSC).
This is five more than the 77 people who died in road crashes for the same period in 2015. In 2014, 64 people died in road crashes over the period.
According to the NRSC, motorcyclists account for the highest number of fatalities, with 32 of the 82 casualties being from this group. There has also been an increase when compared to the number of motorcyclists who died in road crashes for the same period in 2015, when 20 fatalities were recorded.
Pedestrians were next in line, accounting for 13 of the total fatalities since the start of the year.
