Three people escaped injury yesterday when a massive advertising billboard fell on three cars parked at the Texaco service station at the intersection of Half-Way-Tree and Oxford roads in Kingston.
The freak accident, which occurred at approximately 2:35 pm, crushed the vehicles — a Honda Civic, Honda CR-V and Mitsubishi Lancer — sending workers and customers at the petrol station scampering.
The CR-V and Mitsubishi Lancer were occupied, while the Honda Civic, which belongs to a pump attendant at the gas station, was unoccupied at the time.
The occupants of the Mitsubishi Lancer, who gave their names only as Randal and Jessica, were visibly shaken when they spoke with the Jamaica Observer.
They explained that they stopped at the gas station for Jessica to buy phone credit and as they were about to leave, they heard a loud explosion.
“Is the CR-V save wi, because it inna the middle and it bigger. Right now mi car write-off,” Randal said.
Jessica said she would be heading to her doctor immediately, because she was discharged from the University Hospital of the West Indies just last week; after undergoing surgery for gallstones.
