The presentation was made at the guild’s annual fund-raising brunch held recently at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel, New Kingston.

As part of its ongoing support for education and efforts to help the younger generation to fulfil their educational aspirations, Sagicor Foundation recently donated $225,600 to the United Nations Women’s Guild (UNWG) Jamaica to provide two scholarships for high-school students under the organisation’s scholarship programme.

The presentation was made at the UNWG’s annual fundraising brunch held at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel in New Kingston, where the women’s group used entertainment, art and craft to raise money for the R. Danny Williams Primary School and Pre-School Centre for the Deaf.

“Sagicor Foundation is always pleased to assist on initiatives such as these, especially where the impact on the lives of the recipients is significant. With education being a chief area of focus for the foundation, this is just another way to show our support and give back to our society,” said Simone Walker, vice-president, group marketing, Sagicor Group Jamaica.

The women’s organisation assists children from underprivileged circumstances and enables them to attend school regularly by sponsoring meals and transportation. Affiliated with the UNWG headquartered in New York, the passionate group of Jamaican women seeks to enrich the lives of individuals around them.

“Our nation’s children deserve all the support they can get to succeed in spite of their circumstances,” Walker said. She also commended the UNWG for their remarkable charity and the work they are doing in helping young Jamaicans achieve their educational dreams.

Una McPherson, president of the UNWG Jamaica, expressed her sincere gratitude for the donation from Sagicor Foundation: “We are, indeed, very grateful for this contribution towards our scholarship fund as we continue to live by our mandate to assist in early-childhood education for children with special needs and to provide support for educating girls at the high-school level,” she said.
