TRANSPORT Operators Development Sustainable Services (TODSS) yesterday put Minister of Transport Robert Montague and the Transport Authority on notice, signalling that taxi operators could continue to withdraw their services today if problems in the sector are not addressed soon.

TODSS, in a news release yesterday, said that while it will be encouraging transport operators to return to work today, “numerous problems in the sector” could cause them to prolong islandwide demonstrations.

“The two main transport organisations will be meeting tonight (Tuesday) and tomorrow (Wednesday) morning to evaluate the two days of service withdrawal and then decide our next move, bearing in mind that Minister Montague is presently overseas and there have been at least two meetings with the Transport Authority.

“There are some nine issues that are of grave concern to be addressed by the State. We are very concerned about the inconvenience of the travelling public and we will be putting that on the top of our agenda,” TODSS said in the release.

Transport operators demonstrated in Kingston and St Andrew, Catherine, Manchester, and St Thomas on Monday and again yesterday.

Chief among the concerns for transport operators is the Government’s plan to penalise motorists for road traffic breaches that are detected by traffic cameras and other electronic devices.

In instances where the driver of the motor vehicle involved in the road traffic breach cannot be identified, the owner of the vehicle will be held accountable.
