GENERAL insurance company BCIC awarded a trophy and cash incentive to the most improved female and male schools — Hydel High and Jamaica College — for their impressive performances leading up to Champs 2019.
BCIC support of the winning schools at the Digicel Grand Prix Finals/G C Foster Classic showdown on March 16, with trophies and cash prizes of $25,000 towards each school’s feeding programme it’s already begun yielding dividends as seen over the weekend at the 2019 ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’and Girls’ Athletic Championships.
Hydel pushed Edwin Allen to the brink in the battle for the girls’ title at last weekend’s staging of Champs losing by a mere seven points and Jamaica College saw some excellent performances through the 109th staging of Champs including Christopher Scott in Class Three, who managed to lower the boys’ 100-metre record.
BCIC General Manager, Marketing Lori-Ann Glasgow said: “We are excited and proud to be able to contribute in a meaningful way to the growth and development of our young athletes. We hope that their participation in these athletic championships will not only allow them to secure gold medals but break records and dominate in future track and field meets locally and internationally.”
In keeping with its commitment to promoting youth development through education and sports, BCIC has sponsored several initiatives such as the All Jamaica Junior Squash Championships, and the Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championships with a particular focus on not only raising the awareness of golf in Jamaica but also providing opportunities for young women to be involved in the sport through their #GirlsforGolf Initiative.
The company also recently provided the Mount Alvernia High School track & field team, one of the top five ranked girls’ teams in the Digicel Grand Prix Athletics Championships in 2018 and 2019, with new running shoes.
