Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett has said $1 billion was generated during the just concluded Reggae Sumfest held at Catherine Hall in Montego Bay, St. James.
Mr. Bartlett said this year was arguably the biggest festival in terms of attendance from local and overseas guests.

On the visitor arrival side, the Tourism Ministry estimates that about 10,000 people visited the island for the festival.

That was an increase of 3,000 over last year.

The ministry estimates revenue from the festival to be in the region of $1 billion based on average room night stay of locals and visitors as well as taxes.

Mr. Bartlett added that the success of entertainment festivals such as Sumfest augurs well for tourism as it boosts arrivals and has a major economic impact in and around Montego Bay.
