Fledgling insurance broker Axia Jamaica Insurance Agency is pitching its services to Jamaicans living aboard, through a premium access card that tacks on added perks when they buy policies through the company.

The year-old agency sells policies for Guardian Life and Sagicor Group’s insurance companies, but is now offering its own premium Axia Blue card that gives clients access to free administrative services when they have to file a claim.

“When you do business with us, we will do a lot of ground work for you in securing, for example, the supporting documents that you would need for a claim,” Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Hugh Meredith told Wednesday Business.

Meredith, who worked with Sagicor Life Jamaica before venturing into business, said, in cases where persons travelling to Jamaica to arrange burials, the company would take on the task of making the arrangements through funeral homes as well as handle accommodations.

discounts for clients

“We will take of all that running up and down and procurement of all the documents. Plus, we will make available to you all the institutions that you will need to do business with that are located in your area,” Meredith said.

Further, Axia has forged relationships with companies to secure discounts for clients, he said.

“We will go as far as making the necessary arrangements with the funeral homes. As far as the financial transactions are

concerned, that is you, but we will ensure that anything you want us to procure for you, as it relates to the process, we will go the extra mile,” he said.

Axia offers general, health, life and other forms of insurance. It launched into business a year ago with seven clients and has grown to nearly 300 to date, Meredith said at last Wednesday’s official launch of the brokerage in Kingston.

Axia Blue card

Its Axia Blue card is aimed primarily at Jamaicans abroad.

“What we are trying to say to the diaspora is: You have family here in Jamaica, instead of just sending this amount of money that you have to either borrow or take from your credit card to take care of these illness, funeral expenses, spend a small amount per month to insure your

relatives so that, in the time of death, you don’t have to put yourselves in debt,” Meredith said.

Typically, persons who need to make claims will be told by their insurance brokers what documentation they need to procure.

“So they will sit and wait until you get the documents and come back to them. (But) we are experts, we know what we want and we know how to get them so that the hassle is taken out of the process,” he said of the go-between service, adding that its available at no added cost.

Axia has one office in Kingston, but plans to expand in a few months.

“Right now we are looking to establish something in Montego Bay and Ocho Rios before January,” said Meredith.

A Mandeville branch will be added later.
