A man who allegedly defrauded a local insurance company after claiming that members of his family were injured in a motor vehicle crash was arrested on Monday by detectives from the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA).
Headley Thomas was charged with Conspiracy to Defraud and Attempting to Obtain Money by False Pretense following a pre-dawn raid at his premises in St. Andrew.
It is alleged that last September, Mr. Thomas was involved in a motor vehicle crash along Constant Spring Road in St. Andrew.
A report was made to the Half Way Tree Police Station, in which he stated that he was the only person travelling in the vehicle.
Between that time and February this year, he subsequently attempted to defraud a prominent insurance company of four million dollars by claiming that family members were in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
Preliminary investigations by the insurance company revealed that there were no passengers in the vehicle. A report was made to MOCA resulting in Monday morning’s operation.
Mr. Thomas will appear in the St. Andrew Parish Court on Thursday.
