Motorcycle Safety workshop Back to Basics (BTB) was held on Sunday, February 5 at the Spanish Court Hotel in New Kingston, in continuation of its mantra of educating Jamaica’s motorcycle users in order to reduce their rising fatality numbers.

“Our business is like no other. The level of success is dictated not by profit, but by the lives saved,” Tarik Kiddoe, BTB conceptualiser, told Jamaica Observer’s Auto magazine.

“We hope the improvements that we see in riding standards after one takes our programme eventually becomes the gold standard in the island, and possibly the Caribbean at large,” he continued.

Started in September 2015, Back to Basics has made its rounds across the island, spreading its word of safe motorcycle operation to its participants. The eight-hour programme teaches the necessary survival skills to increase a rider’s confidence with the motorcycle. So thorough is the programme that those who wish to upgrade from learner status are able to attempt the riding test as administered by the Island Traffic Authority.
