New York, USA — Farm Up Jamaica, the New York-based non-profit which has been promoting increased agricultural production in Jamaica using organic technology, is taking its campaign to another level.According to Neil Curtis, founder and director, plans are far advanced for the staging of an exhibition of Jamaican farm products in Queens. The event which will take place at Roy Wilkins Park, on June 11, 2017, will be the first of its kind and is specifically designed to bring buyers and suppliers together.
Curtis said that the aim is to “strengthen, but most importantly expand existing and developing new markets to fulfil the needs of both sides.” He suggested that current and prospective buyers would get first-hand knowledge of the quality of products coming out of Jamaica.
“Jamaican farmers have always encountered challenges with sustainable markets, while buyers have often complained about an inability to get supplies on a consistent basis in sufficient quantities,” he said.
Curtis said that between one and three container loads of supplies are to be imported from Jamaica for the project, the bulk of which will be traditional foods and fruits. He has described response to the upcoming event as “tremendous so far”.
