The Traffic Division of the Jamaica Constabulary Force is reporting that the number of speeding tickets issued up to June 9 this year is 21 percent more than for the similar period last year.
It says traffic cops issued 233,309 speeding tickets or 40,048 more than they did up to June 9 last year.
The traffic division says during joint operations with the Island Traffic Authority 3,250 registration plates were removed from motor vehicles and trucks.
A further 4,060 motor vehicles were seized and 10,200 persons prosecuted for illegal tinting of vehicles.
The traffic police say they conducted 33,391 spot checks during which they stopped 417,000 vehicles and searched 500,000 people.
They say during these operations, 1,260 offensive weapons were seized.
Meanwhile, the police say during the period, they also issued over 8,000 summonses.
According to the police, over $13 million has been collected from the execution of warrants and over 1,300 persons arrested during traffic enforcement duties.
