A new survey commissioned by the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) found that millennial consumer behaviours have been shaped by the widespread adoption of smart phones and the Internet.
The survey, titled the Mobile Consumer Survey for Jamaica and conducted via SMS and mobile web, received more than 3,750 responses within five days during June 2017, 75 per cent of which were from the millennial demographic aged 18-34 years old, the PSOJ said in a release.
“Digital transformation and big data are impacting all Jamaican businesses from agriculture to finance and we must know how to react to stay competitive here and abroad. There is a huge opportunity if we move to grasp it,” said PSOJ CEO, Dennis Chung.
Besides indicating their purchase and brand preferences for key sectors in Jamaica, respondents were asked to reveal how they consume media overall and what they use their mobile phones to do.
With social and instant messaging apps like Facebook and WhatsApp being almost ubiquitous on all mobile consumers’ phones some of them have switched their media consumption habits to digital, mobile and social media, the release said.
