KINGSTON, Jamaica — Information from the Statistical Institute of Jamaica (STATIN) reveals that the All Divisions Consumer Price Index for April 2016 declined by 0.4 per cent when compared to March 2016.

A news release from STATIN on Monday said that this movement was impacted by several divisions including food and non-alcoholic beverages recording a negative 0.5 per cent and housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels declining by 2.2 per cent.

STATIN said that the fall recorded for the division food and non-alcoholic beverages was due primarily to the index for the class vegetables and starchy foods falling by 2.6 per cent.

It said the housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels division’s decrease, was due to lower electricity and water rates for the month of April. However, the overall movement was tempered by the division transport, increasing by 0.6 per cent.
