MINISTER of Finance and Planning Dr Peter Phillips has confirmed the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) agreement to an extension of the deadline for public sector salaries to be reduced to nine per cent of GDP, which could make it much easier to reach an agreement with the trade unions by March 31.
“We have already [had] some discussions with the IMF, to indicate this extension of the time limit, and there is understanding in this regard,” Dr Phillips told Tuesday’s opening session of the Standing Finance Committee (SFC) of the House of Representatives, which is reviewing the 2015/16 revenue and expenditure estimates.
