Day two of Sagicor Group Jamaica’s Vax Day initiative saw many more team members bringing out their children coming to get vaccinated as the vaccines available now included the Pfizer vaccine, which can be administered to children 12 years and older.
The Vax Day held in partnership with the Private Sector Vaccine Initiative (PSVI) on Thursday, September 2 was held at Sagicor’s Head Office in New Kingston and had over 650 persons vaccinated. Over the two days of the vaccination blitz, over 1,000 persons received either their first, second or single dose of the AstraZeneca, Pfizer, or Johnson & Johnson vaccine, respectively. The first Vax Day was held on Friday, August 27.
Sagicor Financial Advisor, Shernette Clarke admitted that she was hesitant to take the vaccine initially as she was bombarded with an overload of information but eventually decided to take the Pfizer once it became available; she carried her two sons as well – Jayden, 15, and Jonas, 12, who she noted made the decision on their own to take the vaccine.
Another popular group of persons getting vaccinated included the elderly, as well as persons who admitted to having comorbidities.
Having had the experience of losing two persons close to her from COVID-19, Sagicor Financial Advisor Monica Robotham, who got vaccinated from the first national vaccination blitz used the opportunity to take along her brother, 69, grandaunt, 83 and niece, 60 to get vaccinated. She says she is an advocate for the vaccine as she believes it will give persons a ‘fighting chance’ in the event they contract the virus. Her grandaunt and brother have pre-existing conditions.
“I am extremely pleased that we can play a small part in contributing to this national fight”, said Christopher Zacca, President and CEO of the financial conglomerate.
He encouraged persons to read credible sources of information to make an informed choice about whether to take the vaccine, noting that he believes vaccination is the country’s “best route to Jamaica winning the war against COVID”.
