I am surprised, but very humbled — Quallo

WHEN news broke mid afternoon yesterday that the 29th commissioner of police would be standing Deputy Commissioner of Police George Quallo there was much surprise ringing amongst the rank and file of the constabulary and among people in general.

Quallo, in an interview with the Jamaica Observer minutes after his promotion, said he, too, was surprised by the appointment made by the Police Service Commission, but he quickly added that he was up to the task and was ready for the job.

“At this time, shortly after my official appointment as commissioner of police, I am feeling excellent, very good, really, really humbled by this appointment.

“To tell the truth, I was not expecting to become the commissioner of police, although there were voices from last week stating that I had a very good chance of getting the job. But, as you know, many rumours were circulating, so I paid little attention to the talk and the speculation.
